About the course

Richmond Business Skills are a collection of original and entertaining video modules which present and practise five key business skills:

Each module is centred around an entertaining video story set in the world of business. The videos are divided into chapters, each one focusing on a different area of the skill. Structured activities introduce the topic, prepare students for the video activities, focus on key language and give them real practice using it in the innovative ‘Now it’s your turn’ section.

The online activities are graded for two different levels – Lower (A2 to B1) and Upper (B1+ to B2). This means that lower-level students have exposure to ‘real-life’ business language and situations, but the activities are designed to give them the support they need and build their confidence. The Upper level looks at the key language in more detail, examines more advanced structures and reviews idioms and expressions. This approach allows students to work and develop at their own pace.

When a student enters a chapter at the Lower or Upper level, they will be presented with a task menu. This shows all the sections for the chapter. Each chapter has approximately 90 minutes’ worth of content.

Each section includes a series of activity screens with interactive exercises. Students should check their answers on each screen before moving to the next. They can try the activities as many times as they like. On the final screen, students can see their total score for the entire section.

The Objectives section shows students what they will learn and practise in the chapter.

The Introduction includes activities that get students thinking about the topic of the chapter.

In the Before you watch section, students will practise some important vocabulary that will prepare them for the video.

Students will watch the video in the While you watch section. The chapter is divided into smaller parts and comprehension and observation questions ensure that students can follow the story.

Students will look at the key language in the After you watch section and see how it can be used in the context of the topic.

Students can then practise and record themselves in a business situation in the Now it’s your turn section, getting valuable experience developing this skill in English.

Finally, in the Check what you’ve learnt screen, students can assess their learning.
